"This painting captures a rare calm morning during the stormy spring season on Oahu," said Daria about this artwork. "On that day, the ocean was unexpectedly quiet. I climbed high onto the cliffs and found a viewpoint overlooking a shallow reef shelf, smooth as stone, where soft waves rolled gently across its surface.
It was early, still, and silent — not a single person around. The first light of the sun touched the rocks, making them glow gold in places. The clouds above were lit as well, and their reflections shimmered in the calm ocean water.
In the distance, a few sailboats appeared. Taking advantage of the rare quiet, they ventured out to sea."
Painted in a classical realist tradition of marine painting, this work brings a sense of space, depth, and light into an interior.
Note:
Many of Daria's plein air paintings are created on canvas without stretcher bars and temporarily mounted on a board. Often, they remain in this format, which allows for easier transport to exhibitions, competitions, and collectors.
As a result, traces of paint may occasionally appear along the edges or on the back of the canvas. These marks are not flaws, but natural evidence of the painting’s creation on location — directly from life, not copied from a photograph in a studio.
Upon request, the painting can be shipped rolled or stretched on a wooden frame.
Daria Molostnova lives and works in Hawaii, where she discovered the true beauty of the surrounding world. Her paintings reflect the local reality, expressed through her personal cultural code. A graduate of the Russian State University of Design and Applied Arts named Stroganoff, she earned her master's degree, blending the traditions of classical education with a contemporary artistic perspective.
Daria grew up in a family of professional artists, her mother being a renowned designer and lead doll artist of the Soviet Union. Since 1997, Daria has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists, and since 1998, a member of the International Union of Journalists.
She has taught at the Russian-Italian Art School Perotti and the Correspondence People's University of Arts. She has conducted numerous workshops both in Russia and abroad, as well as team-building activities for companies such as Harpers Bazaar, Mercedes, and Coca-Cola.
Daria has participated in international artist residencies in such countries as Bosnia, France, and Italy. She is a participant in many Russian and international art fairs, competitions, and exhibitions. Currently, she collaborates with galleries in Hawaii and California.
Her works are held in several Russian museums, as well as in private collections both in Russia and abroad. 2025 her painting "Big Storm" won the first prize in the art competition of the Plein Air Magazine in US.
