About the Item
Green Water in the Lake District of England with Lush Trees, Vintage Oil Painting by British Artist, David James. Dramatic skies and beautiful reflections are a feature of this landscape and seascape artist.
This painting depicts a tranquil forest scene at sunset, featuring a calm lake surrounded by lush, verdant foliage. Tall, slender trees with delicate branches and leaves frame the left side of the composition, their reflections visible in the mirror-like surface of the water. The right side is dominated by dense greenery, adding to the sense of depth and enclosure. The sky is adorned with soft, pastel hues of orange and yellow, gradually blending into the cooler tones of blue and gray, with wispy clouds adding texture and movement. The serene water reflects the sunset's warm colors, enhancing the painting's peaceful and dreamy atmosphere. The overall effect is one of idealized natural beauty, evoking a sense of nostalgia and paradise in a remote, rural setting.
David James was born in London in 1944 and moved to Outer London in the fifties. Educated at Hampton School, David James howed an early aptitude for art and won school and national prizes and competitions. James attended Twickenham College of Art from 1962 to 1966 gaining an Intermediate Diploma in Arts and Crafts. With a speciality in wood engraving, three editions of James' prints were sold in 1964. He obtained a National Diploma in Art and Design in 1966. David James began exhibiting at open-air shows in 1963 whilst still at Art School and was immediately successful.
Original paintings by David James attracted the attention of a leading Fine Art publisher; a reproduction published in 1969 sold well, entitled "Slow Water" - this was published by Rosenstiels. Nowadays, much of the work by David James is sold abroad; there are examples of James paintings in all European countries and North America, South America, China, Russia, Japan, India, New Zealand, Australia, the Middle East and Greenland.
David currently lives in Sussex on the coast, within reach of the South Downs. He is married to an artist and has three children. Much of the inspiration for the work executed by James is drawn from the Lake District, Devon and Cornwall, and the Welsh Countryside. David has exhibited his works at the Royal Academy and in leading provincial galleries. A wide range of subjects painted by David is available including landscape, marine and still life paintings.
