About the Item
A masterful oil painting depicting a coastal scene with a sail boat passing through the glimmering waters, lush hills, and seaside buildings under a lightly clouded sky. This particular scene is a plein air painting, as Huse is known for painting on her boat with a view of the land and sail boats passing through. She creates numerous views of coaster life from the water, and this piece is a pertinent example of this. Her use of a rich color pallet, pallet knife, and layers of paint gives this work such a stunning representation of harbor life. The way she uses flecks of light dashed on the water creates a joy for the viewer to experience. This painting is signed by the artist lower left, also titled and dated with affixed label from the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association on verso, it comes housed in a beautiful wide dark wood frame with gold liner with hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Debra Huse is a renowned contemporary American Impressionist oil painter born in 1959 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Huse's passion for art emerged at a young age, nurtured by her mother, an amateur artist who recognized and encouraged her daughter's natural talent. By the age of 10, Huse was enrolled in professional lessons, and her prodigious skill earned her a scholarship in sixth grade to study for an entire summer at the prestigious John Herron Art Academy in Indianapolis. This early formal training laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to painting, blending technical precision with emotional depth.
Huse initially painted with pastels, and later she transitioned to oils, developing a signature style marked by bold colors, fluid brushstrokes, and luminous light. Huse's style is characterized by rich, saturated colors, fluid brushstrokes, and a masterful capture of fleeting light—qualities that evoke the drama of coastal scenes, harbors, and landscapes. Her studio is currently based in Newport Beach, California, and she works primarily en plein air, traveling extensively to paint on location.
A Signature Member of the American Impressionist Society and Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, Huse has exhibited in over 25 U.S. museums and featured in Southwest Art Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, and Fine Art Connoisseur. Her paintings, often inspired by nautical travels on her boat Grouper, are collected worldwide. As a sought-after instructor, she teaches workshops on simplifying complex subjects and using her "Theory of Thirds" to achieve the right composition. Debra Huse's journey from an Indiana prodigy to a coastal Impressionist exemplifies a prominent figure in the plein air community, blending spontaneity and emotional depth in her work.
