About the Item
The great art historian Federico Zeri said that painting snow-covered landscapes was one of the most complicated things for an artist.
Well, in this landscape of the Piedmont countryside covered in a thick blanket of snow, we can admire all the superb skill of Demetrio Tabacco.
A painting of rare quality, it manages to convey the profound silence and rarefied atmosphere with rare skill.
Signed and dated ‘D. Tabacco 1947’.
Pastel on paper
It bears its brass plate of origin with the inscription
‘D. Tabacco Snowfall in the Vercelli countryside’.
This artwork, never before on the market, comes from an important private collection and is beautified by an impressive period frame in laquered wood.
Every item of our Gallery, upon request, is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity issued by Sabrina Egidi official Expert in Italian furniture for the Chamber of Commerce of Rome and for the Rome Civil Courts.
Demetrio Tabacco (Torino 1886 - ?)
In his home town he briefly frequented the studio of Tommaso Ruffo.
In 1921, he made his debut in Biella. He later exhibited in Turin, Vercelli and Novara.
From 1916 to 1918 he moved to Tripoli, where he faithfully portrayed scenes of ambience and costume.
He treated the landscape, but preferred the figure.
His works include: Arab Knights, a work exhibited at the 3rd Biellese Exposition of Fine Arts; Murzuk Castle; Arab Fantasy; Water Bearers; Arab Well; The Arab Market; Itinerant Musicians; The Caravan; Prayer in the Desert; Interior of a Mosque; in which he emphasised his skill with perspective.
