About the Item
This is an original oil on canvas painting of a ‘Wintery River landscape with brushwood collector’. This work is circa the 19th century and pictures a snowy evening with a cool toned colour palette. This landscape painting is by the Austrian artist Desiree Thomassin (1858-1933).
Thomassin was a painter and composer. He was mainly known for his landscape, figure and rural genre painting. He leaned heavily on Diez's 'naturalistic style in his finely graded mood paintings. The artist studied under Wilhelm von Diez at the Royal Academy of Arts, Munich
painted mainly peasant scenes.
Thomassin was a member of the National Association of Visual Artists of Germany.
