About the Item
This intimate oil-on-copper painting by acclaimed miniature artist Dina Brodsky exemplifies her remarkable ability to compress vast emotional and spatial depth into a jewel-like format. Measuring just 2.25 inches in diameter, the circular composition presents a sweeping horizon at dusk, where soft bands of atmospheric color dissolve gently into one another. Warm blushes and muted oranges hover above distant blue-gray mountains, while a darkened foreground of forested land anchors the scene with quiet gravity.
Executed on copper—a surface historically favored for its luminosity and durability—the painting possesses an inherent glow that enhances Brodsky’s nuanced handling of light. The smooth metal ground allows for exceptional clarity and precision, giving the sky a delicate translucence and lending the landscape a timeless, almost meditative quality. Despite its diminutive scale, the work evokes the expansive calm of a panoramic vista, inviting close, contemplative viewing.
The tondo (round) format further heightens the sense of intimacy and focus, drawing the eye inward and reinforcing the painting’s quiet, self-contained world. Brodsky’s mastery of miniature painting is evident not only in her technical control but also in her ability to evoke memory, solitude, and reverence for the natural world.
Elegantly framed, the work measures 11 x 11 x 1 inches, transforming this small painting into a refined wall presence suitable for both contemporary and traditional interiors. This piece is an exquisite example of Brodsky’s celebrated practice and a compelling addition for collectors of fine miniature painting and contemporary realism.
