A beautiful 1930's oil on board depicting a bucolic Sussex landscape with tree lined lane, large house and distant church, by Doris H. de Carteret.
Excelllent quality work in superb original condition and rare to be painted by a female artist at that time.
Signed lower left and presented in a fine swept gilt frame. One of a pair that we currently have available for sale - please see our other listings.

Doris H. de Carteret was born in Wandsworth in 1897, the only daughter of Henry C. de Carteret, a Club Secretary, and his wife Elizabeth de Carteret.
The prominent de Carteret family, based primarily in the Channel Islands, had members residing in Wandsworth by the late 19th century, and it is therefore likely that Doris came from a family of means.
She is later recorded as living in Arundel, West Sussex, in the 1930's, at the time that our landscape was painted.
