Etienne Ritter (1934–1994)
Étienne Ritter was a French painter originally from Sondernach, Alsace. Coming from a humble family, he began painting at an early age. During his military service in Algeria, he continued to develop his passion for painting. Upon his return, he decided to dedicate himself professionally to art. Ritter was noted for his Alsatian landscapes, particularly those in spring and winter, as well as for his still lifes and floral scenes. His style evolved from detailed figurative painting to an exploration of Cubism and more abstract techniques, especially during the period from 1975 to 1990. Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, he continued painting until the end of his life. His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries in France, Canada, and other countries, and are part of public collections such as the Strasbourg Museum of Modern Art.
