About the Item

This Romantic oil painting from the late 19th century, attributed to the noted British maritime artist Edwin Henry Eugene Fletcher (1857-1945), depicts a dramatic scene: in the foreground, a small fishing vessel with a crimson sail struggles for survival in storm-tossed seas. The artist's skillful brushwork brings remarkable detail to the composition: foaming waves crash against the vessel's hull with untamed energy, rays of sunlight break through golden-grey storm clouds and shimmer upon the water's surface, seagulls wheel through the stormy sky. The painting allegorically celebrates the courage of steadfast individuals who persevere and remain true to their course despite the hardships they face. This work would undoubtedly make a valuable addition to any collection and would not only elevate any interior but also imbue it with deeper significance. DETAILS: Artist: Signed lower right. Attributed Charles François Grenier de Lacroix or Charles - François Lacroix de Marseille (1700 - 1782) as signed lower left on the stone “Lacroix”. The scene of the departure of nobles on a ship, somewhere among the Mediterranean landscapes at sunrise. Fording the River Landscape British Master Nasmyth 19th century Oil Painting
Located in Stockholm, SE
Signed lower right "Nasmyth" leading to one of the whole pleiad of renowned Scottish artists starting with Alexander Nasmyth (1758 -1840). This painting showcases a scene of a landscape with shallow water, where a family is seen wading through a river ford in knee-deep water. The presence of a shepherdess on a high bank, observing the travelers with keen interest, adds a sense of pastoral charm to the composition. One of the focal points of the painting is a picturesque tree that has fallen into the river, adding a touch of drama to the overall scene. The contrast between the lush woodland and bushes on the right side of the foreground and the rolling valley on the left side further enhances the depth and perspective of the painting and superbly illustrates the traditions of the early 19th century British Art...
