Description
A luminous and atmospheric Mediterranean seascape by Eliseo Meifrén, one of the foremost Spanish Impressionists and a master of light.
Executed in oil on cardboard, the piece captures a calm horizon dotted with sailboats suggested through soft, vaporous brushstrokes. The palette of turquoise waters, pearly skies and gentle tonal transitions is characteristic of Meifrén’s finest marine work.
The scene balances immediacy and delicacy: the sea in the foreground is rendered with fluid, confident strokes, while the distant sails dissolve into atmosphere, evoking the serenity of early-morning coastal light.
Artist
Eliseo Meifrén i Roig (1859–1940)
A highly influential figure in the introduction of Impressionism in Spain, Meifrén trained at La Llotja in Barcelona before refining his technique in Paris. He worked and exhibited throughout Europe, the United States and South America, achieving international recognition.
His works are housed in major institutions such as the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, the Museu de Montserrat, the Museu de Maricel in Sitges, and numerous private collections in Europe and the Americas.
