We have received a message here on 1stdibs, indicating that this is indeed Emile's work vs. Andre's. Below is the message received as well as the translation. "ce tableau n'est pas d'André Boyer mais d'Émile Boyer 1877-1948 donc impossible qu'il l'ai peint dans les années 1970. André Boyer était mon ami et le locataire de ma famille je suis collectionneur de ses toiles (50 toiles ) et son style n'a rien a voir avec celui d'Émile Boyer . Bien cordialement ." Translation: "This painting is not by André Boyer but by Émile Boyer 1877-1948 so it is impossible that he painted it in the 1970s. André Boyer was my friend and the tenant of my family I am a collector of his paintings (50 paintings) and his style has nothing to do with that of Émile Boyer. Kind regards." We have uploaded an image showing what Emile's paintings can be sold for in gallerys - in this case of the screen grab, it is about $6700. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Artist Name: Boyer, Emile (Original Artwork - Listed Artist) Dates: 1877 - 1948 Signature/Date/Other: Lower Right Corner (and on the reverse) (More info is available on the back, including the location and a number, etc.) Nationality: French Subject or Title: Light Snow at the Cafe St. Michel looking towards Notre Dame, Paris (Unusual for these Paris street scenes to depict a dusting of snow - it is usually rain) Size/Sight: 18"x22" Frame: Approx 28"x31" - Nice orate frame in very good condition with orange, black and gold highlights. Really LOVE the frame which adds a good deal of value to this piece. Should be the original frame chosen by the artist and the highlights of color of the frame accent the artwork perfectly! Media: Oil on Canvas Condition: No Known Issues (could be brighter if cleaned - but quite bright already!) Comments/Other: View of Notre Dame from the Boulevard Saint Michel. Signed Boyer lower right, countersigned en verso. In gilt wood frame with linen liner. Possibly painted in the 1930s. Not sure if the frame is original, but has the look of many impressionist frames seen in museums. There is a number on the back as Boyer may have been keeping records of his work and where/when and to whom they were sold. This Boyer depicts a winter scene with a light dusting of snow; the wonderful frame and the fact that there is snow (which is not often depicted in Boyer's paintings or Paris street scenes in general), make this a more interesting and desirable piece... Émile Boyer (1877–1948) was a French painter known for his depictions of Parisian scenes as was his son Andre. This piece was initially believed to be by Andre, but as noted above, we received a note from someone who was a friend of Andre and he attributes the work to his father Emile - therefore, it is a much older piece than originally thought, and a wonderful bright piece showing the old steeple of Notra Dame before the fire and a very unique scene of Paris with a dusting of snow, all housed in a wonderful frame. (Note - in looking at signatures of Andre and Emile, whom both signed their work "Boyer" the signature on this piece does seem to be more similar to those paintings that are defined as being by Emile Boyer.)
