About the Item
Evelyn Rumsey Lord was born in Buffalo, New York, and studied at the Albright Art School with Urquhart Wilcox and Edwin Dickinson and at the Art Students’ League in New York with Robert Henri. During summers she studied in Ogunquit, Maine, and Provincetown, Massachusetts with Charles Hawthorne. She became a member of the Buffalo Society of Artists in 1910 and served as president for two years from 1931 to 1932. Lord was also one of the founding members of the Patteran Society in 1933.
Lord's work is in the permanent collection of the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State University. She also exhibited at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo and with the Society of Independent Artists.
In Brittany Coast, 1907, Lord has utilized her classic impressionist style and soft palette to depict French fishing boats beached along a coastal village.
Painting itself measures 11" x 7 1/8". Artist's name and title inscribed on verso.
