About the Item

As part of his St. Barth series, Aguzzi delivers another retreat for the spectator. This window into island life seeks to extend the tranquil nature of the ocean to its audience. The artists realistic perspective is demonstrated through the paintings blue palette, smooth sand, and painterly rocks. Aguzzi creates a tropical harmony by combining the Caribbeans earthy elements. FABIO AGUZZI Lombardi, b. 1953 Born in Lombardy in 1953, Fabio Aguzzi is an accomplished painter whose mastery of light is apparent in his distinct still lifes, portraits, and landscapes. Aguzzi took an interest in art at an early age. After sketching an impressive reproduction of Raphael's "The Duke of Montefeltro" in the margins of his schoolwork notebook, his teacher took the drawing to Aguzzi's father, Lino, and insisted the boy pursue artistic studies at Brera. Lino, a hobbyist painter himself, recognized and supported his son's talent. Aguzzi left his home in Vidigulfo to study at Brera School in Milan. From there, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts (where he would later teach). Here, he studied sculpture under the tutelage of Alik Cavaliere and painting with Vincenzo Ferrari. He also worked as an assistant to Annibale Biglione in his studio. In the 1960s, Aguzzi began to teach while becoming a prolific painter. During this time, he opened his first exhibitions displaying landscapes and portraits with a surrealist style. Since, he has consistently shown at private exhibitions. His works are held in numerous collections and have been sold at prestigious auctions, including a a 2009 auction at Sotheby's Milan. Aguzzi eventually returned to his hometown of Vidigulfo where he continues to work in an open space studio attic.

Photorealism is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media. An American art movement that began in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Photorealism evolved from Pop Art as a counter to Abstract Expressionism as well as Minimalist art movements. Though Photorealists share some aspects of American realists, such as Edward Hopper, they tried to set themselves as much apart from traditional realists as they did Abstract Expressionists. Photorealists were much more influenced by the work of Pop artists and were reacting against Abstract Expressionism. The word Photorealism was coined by Louis K. Meisel in 1969 and appeared in print for the first time in 1970 in a Whitney Museum catalogue for the show "Twenty-two Realists." It is also sometimes labeled as Super-Realism, New Realism, Sharp Focus Realism...

Sunset Aliomanu Bay, Kauai - Water and Sky Meet with Sun Kissed Clouds
By Jeff Aeling
Located in Chicago, IL
Aeling’s fascination with atmospheric drama—rooted in his childhood in the American West, where weather dominates the horizon—finds powerful expression in this seascape. The low line of the ocean reinforces the artist’s signature device: vast, open skies that dwarf the land below. Yet the work also reflects a more personal history: Aeling’s enduring love of Hawaii, where he spent many winters surfing and studying the Pacific’s shifting moods. Those days on the water deepened his awareness of how ocean and sky interact, how storms gather, dissolve, and re-form with astonishing rapidity. The painting captures that moment when light changes direction and the boundary between calm and impending weather becomes charged with meaning. His precise modulation of color and temperature recalls his study of 19th-century luminists, yet the lived experience of Hawaiian surf breaks gives the scene an immediacy and authenticity that is distinctly his own. Jeff Aeling Sunset Aliomanu Bay, Kauai oil on panel 28h x 48w in 71.12h x 121.92w cm JAE040 Jeff Aeling (1958–2025): The Sky Remembers Through Jeff Aeling’s eyes, the landscape becomes a world shaped as much by air as by earth. In works such as North of Las Vegas, NM and Pond Near St. Cloud, MN, he balances the quiet structure of plains and wetlands with skies alive in constant motion. His mastery of atmosphere is unmistakable in Light Pillars (2023) and Light Pillar (2023), where rare optical events turn night into architecture. Even intimate scenes like Crabapple, Dogwoods, and Red Bud find their emotional power under skies that lend the land its shifting character. Aeling’s winters in Hawaii deepened his sensitivity to movement and weather. Surfing taught him to read the rhythm of the ocean, a knowledge reflected in Wave, Kauai (2018), where a breaking wave becomes a luminous wall of force. In Volcano (2023), he channels the islands’ elemental drama, linking fire, vapor, and sky through the same atmospheric vocabulary found in his plains paintings...
