Francesc d´Assis Planas Doria (Sabadell, December 6, 1879 – Barcelona, December 29, 1955) was a Catalan painter of great renown within the post-impressionist movement. He was born in Sabadell, where he began to take an interest in art from an early age. He trained at the School of Fine Arts in Barcelona and, throughout his career, developed a technique that fused the colour and light characteristic of impressionism with greater structural solidity and a realistic approach typical of post-impressionism.
Planas Doria excelled mainly in portraiture and landscape, his works being recognised for their vibrant chromatic quality and attention to detail. In his landscapes, one can clearly perceive the influence of the painters of the Catalan school and of the natural environment of his region, often depicted with a light and atmosphere that evoked the modernity of his time. Throughout his life, he participated in important exhibitions and was a reference in Catalan painting at the beginning of the 20th century.
His style evolved towards a more nuanced and reflective approach, which allowed him to capture both the beauty of nature and the emotional complexity of human portraits. Despite the political and social turbulence of his time, Planas Doria maintained a very personal artistic vision that consolidated him as one of the great exponents of post-impressionism in Catalonia.
