This river landscape executed by Francesco Zuccarelli is certainly a work that does not belong to the painter's more advanced activity, but on the contrary to the time of his first landscape works, during or immediately after his stay in Florence. The painting is characterised by a realistic tendency but at the same time it is possible to distinguish the author's imagination. The work depicts a river view, with a narrow waterfall in the centre and four figures in the foreground. Next to each of the two fishermen appears the typical pumpkin, which often characterises Zuccarelli's landscapes. The rest of the landscape is characterised by the presence of rocky masses and promontories flanking the course of the river, while in the background a hilly area and buildings can be seen.
