The elegant and refined style of Miralles is perfectly reflected in this work, where the French high society ladies is the protagonist.
The work has a careful drawing as well as a soft and vibrant brushstroke based on light and bright tones. With these characteristics of his painting Miralles was veru successful in Paris during the years he lived in the French capital (1875 - 1880), also in Barcelona, where he settled again after 1895.
Francisco Miralles y Galup (Valencia, April 6, 18481 - Barcelona, November 30, 1901) was a Spanish painter based in Paris and Barcelona.
His first youth years were spent in Barcelona; He later moved to Paris, where he developed most of his artistic career.
Disciple of Ramón Martí Alsina and brother-in-law of the famous pharmacist and industrialist Salvador Andreu, in the French capital he popularized a refined style focused mainly on traditional themes of bourgeois life and high society, especially starring female characters.
In 1895 he settled again in Barcelona, where his paintings were highly valued by the regular audience of the Sala Parés .
During his career he remained faithful to certain issues in his prolific Parisian stage. Highlights his oil Ride in boat (1888-1890, Carmen Thyssen Museum Malaga), work of his maturity where Miralles shows a soft and vibrant brushstroke, insisting more on faces and carnations to give them greater likelihood.
His works can be seen in a series of public collections; among others, in Spain, in addition to the aforementioned Thyssen Museum in Malaga, in the Modern Art Museum of Barcelona and in the Víctor Balaguer Museum Library; in France, in the one of Brest Fine Arts (La Place de Clichy, 1882); 3 in Chile, in the Municipal of Fine Arts of Valparaíso (The fisherwoman, 1880).
