Early 20th Century French Barbizon School of a lake and cottage by G Jouyet. The painting is signed bottom left and there is a birthday inscription, signature and title to the back of the board. Presented in a plain period wood frame.
A charming Barbizon School Impressionist view of the countryside around Le Moucherotte mountain in France. In the foreground an 'etang' or small lake reflects the surrounding trees and bushes, a collection of farm buildings to the right then lead the eye towards the mountain peak in the background surmounted by the white drifting clouds. Jouyet has used rich tonal colours and his use of material give warmth and depth to the painting.
Le Moucherotte is a 1,901-metre-high peak in the Vercors Mountains in the French department of Isère. Located at the north-eastern end of the massif, it ends with the rocks of the Trois Pucelles, on its northern ridge, and dominates the agglomeration of Grenoble. It is composed of limestones, especially from the Urgonian in its upper part.

Charles Francis De Klyn was born in Westchester County, New York, in 1865. A landscape, marine, portrait and figure painter, De Klyn studied in New York and Paris from 1886 to 1891, then taught at the Cleveland Art Club and the Cleveland School of Art. In 1893, he was one of the founders of the Cleveland Brush and Palette Club, and he exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1894 and 1895.
