Title of this work is “If you’re a one-trick pony, let the trick be good.”
This piece explores the idea of the “one great trick” through the figure of Zorro - a symbol of courage, ideals, and upward momentum. Captured mid-leap, the horse and rider rise in a moment that can never be repeated, reflecting how artists often return to a familiar gesture yet never recreate it the same way twice. The work questions whether artists ascend like heroic horses or simply circle the same trick. Still, each attempt remains singular. Blurred, unstable details become metaphors for our ride on unchecked progress: a bright sky without true light, a flat desert without direction, a faceless hero. These intentional imperfections invite viewers to engage directly with the medium and its raw present moment.

Gabija Pritkovaitė (b. 1998) lives and works in Vilnius. From 2018 to 2024, she earned both her BA and MA in Painting from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. She is part of the new generation of Lithuanian painters, actively exhibiting in group shows and competitions. In 2023, she received first place in the Zabolis Art Prize and was awarded the Justinas Vienožinskis Scholarship in 2020. Pritkovaitė treats the painted surface as both a visual and conceptual space, where memory and presence continuously shift and overlap. Through this approach, she reflects on the instability of images and the role of painting in negotiating contemporary states of being.
