19th century gilded wood frame
Georg Höhn is a 19th century German landscape painter, of the Romantic period. He attended the Berlin Academy from 1828 to 1831 then entered the workshop of Karl Blechen. In 1838, his painting presented at the Berlin art exhibition, “A Monastery Courtyard”, was bought by the Prussian King Frederick William III. His favorite subjects are oak landscapes in Germany, animated by people or big game (Höhn was an experienced hunter). Some large landscapes are views of the Dessau region. A painting by Höhn “An Oak Forest in Winter” near Dessau is at the National Gallery in Berlin.
