About the Item

The Woodland Path circle of George Turner (English 1841-1910) oil painting on canvas, framed framed: 19 x 25.5 inches canvas: 14 x 21.5 inches condition: very good provenance: private collection, England George Turner (1841–1910) was a celebrated English landscape painter, often referred to as "Derbyshire's John Constable" for his evocative depictions of the English countryside. Born in Cromford, Derbyshire, Turner was largely self-taught and developed a keen eye for capturing the serene beauty of rural life. He spent much of his life in Barrow-on-Trent and later in Idridgehay, Derbyshire, where he balanced his artistic pursuits with farming. Turner's paintings are renowned for their lush, panoramic landscapes that often feature pastoral scenes with figures, livestock, and tranquil waterways. His works exhibit a masterful use of light and composition, drawing viewers into idyllic rural settings. Notable paintings include The Trent near Ingleby and A Quiet Pool, Near Stanton-by-Bridge, which showcase his ability to portray the gentle rhythms of country life. Beyond his artistic contributions, Turner was also an influential art teacher, mentoring several successful artists, including his son, William Lakin Turner. His legacy continues to be celebrated, with his works held in various collections and frequently appearing in art auctions and galleries.
