In this painting, trees completely fill the canvas, plunging the viewer into untouched wilderness as heavy rain pours over the forest.
Gérard Priault draws deeply from nature. During his many journeys through the world’s tropical rainforests, he enters these environments almost contemplatively, letting himself be absorbed by their elements.
Yet his works do not depict specific real jungles; they emerge from imagination, nourished by memories and impressions. The viewer is invited to wander through these enigmatic, almost dreamlike landscapes—to hear the calls of birds and monkeys, to feel the humidity and drifting mist, to marvel at the vivid colours of the vegetation.
With a meticulous and highly detailed technique, the artist constructs each scene tree by tree, leaf by leaf. For Priault, creation is also an internal voyage where time seems to disappear. He breathes life into the painting, then allows the work itself to guide him, revealing how it wishes to be shaped. This suspension of time resonates through his canvases: are we looking at the present, the future, or the past?

Gérard Priault draws his inspiration from nature: during his many trips to the world’s tropical rainforests, the artist immerses himself in an almost contemplative way in untouched nature and allows himself to be totally immersed in its elements. However, his paintings do not represent real rainforests but are the product of his imagination, based on personal memories and impressions. The viewer is invited to travel through these landscapes, which have a mysterious, almost dreamlike atmosphere: they can imagine the sounds of birds and monkeys, feel the humidity in the air and mist, and be amazed by the intense colours of the vegetation. Using a precise and meticulous technique, the artist builds up the landscape tree by tree, leaf by leaf. For him, the creative process is also an inner adventure, in which time no longer exists. “My paintings are images of dreams born of gestures. Each painting is a journey of initiation, filled with new insights.”
