Paris: Two Views of Notre Dame Cathedral

Sheet: each measure 9.75 x 12.5 inches
Two very charming paintings by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. Both depict different views of the beautiful Notre Dame Cathedral, one of the best known buildings in Paris. Both paintings include figures. The painting with the gentleman gazing over the wall at the cathedral has a rough watercolour sketch of a village church on the back (which we have shown in one photograph). We believe these two would look very nice displayed as a pair. Both are signed lower right. These works form part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. They are undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948.
Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire).
condition report:
No tears or creases. Colour on both is good, strong, and clear. Edges of the sheets are slightly marked from long term storage but once matted and framed this would not be seen.

Henri Miloch
