About the Item

Paris: Colourful Shops by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) signed lower right watercolour and gouache painting on artist's paper, unframed Sheet:: 9.75 x 12.5 inches Very pretty painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It depicts a brightly hued shop in a busy street, with figures bustling about their daily business. This one is signed. He has inscribed it by the signature with "Rue Vaxxxx" but the street name, sadly, is unclear. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. This one is undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: No tears or creases. Upper right corner has two small brown marks. Colour is good, strong, and clear.
