About the Item

Paris: Pont Alexandre III by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) signed lower right watercolour and gouache painting on artist's paper, unframed Sheet:: 13 x 9.75 inches Charming painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. It depicts Pont Alexandre III spanning the River Seine, and which connects the Champs-Elysees quarter with the Eiffel Tower and Invalides. We can see cars atop the bridge and figures strolling about their daily business beneath the famous winged horse statues and the Grand Palais can be see to the left.. This one is signed. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. This one is undated but the body of Parisian work we have by this artist was dated in most cases, with this style, from the later post-war part of the 1940's....mainly around 1948. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: No tears or creases. Very edges of sheet are slightly rough and the right side of the sheet is not cut quite straight (we have given the width measurement of this sheet at the narrowest part). A small dark spot of the artist's paint is see on the very right edge of the sheet halfway down the sheet but this would not be visible once framed and matted. Colours are gentle and muted.
