About the Item
A vibrant Bermuda seascape depicting the rocky shoreline with turquoise waters breaking against sunlit boulders beneath a sweeping tree. Mears uses bold, textured brushstrokes and a rich palette of blues, greens, and warm earth tones to bring the coastal scene to life.
Mears was known for her impressionist style landscapes and coastal views, and she painted several views of Bermuda throughout her life, even maintaining a studio on the island at one point. This is a strong example of her work and one of the relatively few oils she painted of the island (versus her more common watercolors).
The work is oil on canvas board and is signed in the lower left. It is housed in a wonderful gilt frame, ready for display.
