This exceptional artwork is currently on display and available for sale at Signet Contemporary Art Gallery and online. Purbeck Viewpoint Looking Towards Poole Harbour presents a sweeping rural panorama rendered with Ian Hargreaves’ signature realism and compositional clarity. Executed in oil on canvas, the painting unfolds in gentle layers of land, water, and sky, guiding the viewer across the landscape with a sense of natural rhythm. The elevated viewpoint creates a feeling of openness and distance, reinforcing the vastness of the scene. The palette is grounded in earthy greens, muted ochres, and soft browns, punctuated by cooler blues that define the harbour beyond. These tonal shifts subtly describe depth and atmosphere, while the sky remains light and expansive, dotted with soft cloud forms that echo the rolling contours below. The restrained use of colour enhances the painting’s sense of balance and calm. Hargreaves’ approach is observational yet expressive, capturing not just the physical landscape but its quiet emotional resonance. The painting invites contemplation, offering a moment of visual pause that feels both timeless and deeply connected to place. Artist Biography: Born in 1957, Ian studied at Bournemouth College of Art. At the age of 21 he set off across Europe for ten months, recording his travels in watercolour.
