The painting depicts a picturesque scene with gondolas on a canal in Venice. The artist used an impasto technique: thick strokes of paint create a relief, almost sculptural surface of the canvas. Thanks to this, the architecture and water seem to merge into a single soft texture.
The buildings in the background are pinkish-beige and cream-colored with hints of red roofs. They appear old and slightly blurred, as if shrouded in fog. In the foreground, dark gondolas are visible, in which the figures of gondoliers can be distinguished. The water reflects the colors of the sky and facades—silvery gray with splashes of turquoise and pink accents.
The atmosphere of the painting is calm, almost dreamlike. It conveys the poetic silence of the canal, when everything around seems to breathe with the tranquility of the old city. The painting does not strive for accuracy — its power lies in the emotional impression, in the feeling of light, space, and time frozen between the brushstrokes.
