About the Item
Signed lower right and dated at very edge of canvas, attributed Jean Antoine Théodore Gudin (1802 – 1880), was a French marine painter and court painter to both king Louis Philippe and subsequently Emperor of the French Napoleon III. Along with Louis-Philippe Crépin, he became one of the first two official Peintres de la Marine in 1830. Breathtaking sunset scene on North African coast of Mediterranean Sea with figures eagerly waiting for the ship appearing now at horizon. Stretched canvas 14x20 inches marked by Thomas McLean, London. Antique seascape oil painting on canvas, signed, framed.
Size app.: 35.5 x 51 cm (roughly 14 x 20.1 in), with much recent frame of 50 x 64.5 cm (roughly 19.7 x 25.4 in). Very Good conserved condition with only 1 restored tear in the sky area. Please study high-res pictures for cosmetic condition! In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 2.2 kg is going to measure some 4 kg volume weight packed for shipment.
