Pointe de Suzac at Saint Georges de Didonne, a short distance from Royan, was a site regularly depicted in the late 19th century and up until the 1930s.
We know of numerous views by the painter Louis Cabié, depicting the various cliffs along the coast, dating back to 1890. Only one view by this painter is known, depicting Pointe de Suzac at moonrise. Pasquet, for his part, seemed to visit the region regularly, as works can be found at the port of Saint Georges, on the beach, among the rocks, and even in the nearby land and forests.
As usual, Jean-Georges Pasquet treats his subject with a vivid and sharp palette, rich in contrasting details, and, above all, leaves a few touches of very vivid blue paint, giving the composition a little extra sparkle. The completely deserted beach gives the composition the appearance of a late 19th-century naturalist subject, an important element in the depiction of this locality.
