Jean Lassueur was born in Geneva in 1899 and died in 1980.
He was a Swiss painter, draftsman, and engraver known for expressive landscapes and Alpine scenes. By the 1930s, he was producing mature work, including pieces like Dolomites, Swiss (1938). He also traveled abroad and made a documentary film in Africa in 1953.
Lassueur worked mostly in oil on canvas or panel, painting Swiss mountains, chalets, and rural life. His style was modernist and expressionistic, using bold colors and simplified forms. Notable works include Sur le balcon, Montagnes et mazots, Valais, and Brunnen. His art reflects the Swiss mid-century landscape tradition.
Though not widely known internationally, Lassueur exhibited locally and remains appreciated among collectors. His paintings appear in auctions and private collections, particularly in Geneva. He contributed to 20th-century Swiss art with vibrant, personal depictions of Alpine life.
