About the Item

Winter River Landscape in Scandinavia with Silver Birch Trees by Danish Artist, Jens Christian Bennedsen (1893-1967) Art measures 13 x 9.5 inches Frame measures 17.25 x 13 inches This serene and luminous winter landscape by Jens Christian Bennedsen (1893–1967) - the distinguished Danish artist and theatre painter - captures the poetic stillness of the Nordic countryside with refined sensitivity. A master of atmosphere and seasonal light, Bennedsen was educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in both Copenhagen and Rome, and was later active in Sweden from the 1940s. His work is held in prominent collections, including the Nivaagaards Malerisamling in Denmark. In this finely composed painting, a snow-covered path curves gently past birch trees and leads the viewer toward a tranquil river tinged with icy green. The surrounding hills, softened by violet and blue hues, rise in the distance beneath a dusky winter sky. Bennedsen’s brushwork is delicate and assured, offering a sense of depth and quiet contemplation. His subtle tonal shifts and keen observation of light evoke a peaceful moment suspended in time. The original gilded frame enhances the work’s timeless aesthetic, making it an elegant addition to any curated space. Bennedsen’s ability to convey serenity through landscape aligns him with the best of Danish naturalist and romantic traditions. Highlights: • Original oil painting by Jens Christian Bennedsen (1893–1967) • Quiet Nordic landscape with birch trees, river, and snow-laden hills • Subtle palette with sophisticated use of light and shadow • Original giltwood frame included • Represented in major Danish institutions, including the Nivaagaards Malerisamling A rare opportunity to acquire an authentic and beautifully preserved work by one of Denmark’s quietly celebrated painters.
