About the Item

Exquisite painting on canvas, "Sunrise View from a Rocky Landscape with a Soldier" In the style of 17th-century Dutch landscape painting, the Golden Age of Dutch painting, Dutch Golden Age painting underwent significant development, becoming a popular and highly appreciated genre. It is notable for its attempt to depict reality as accurately as possible, prioritizing detail and light. They managed to develop their own painting techniques to create an emotional and evocative atmosphere in their landscapes. The landscapes were often coastal, with lush forests and cliffs. This type of painting became an important historical legacy, greatly influencing subsequent painting movements. In this work, the moment of dawn is depicted with great realism, when the heavens open, letting in the light that begins the day. The sky is recreated with great movement of clearings and clouds, providing visual volume and generating a real and disturbing scenic sensation. The precision of the brushstrokes in the treetops sheltered from the wind is truly extraordinary. The depth of the landscape is achieved through the contrast between the character in the foreground and the remote mountainous landscape. A truly evocative landscape. Joachim Govertsz was a landscape painter, a follower of Pieter Van Asch. This work follows the influence of 17th-century Dutch painting, and specifically of this artist.
