ABOUT THE ARTIST
Joaquín Terruella Matilla was a Catalan painter born in Barcelona in 1891. A nephew of fellow artist Segundo Matilla, Terruella received solid artistic training and was influenced by Santiago Rusiñol, with whom he traveled to Italy in 1923. He exhibited widely in Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Bordeaux, and Biarritz.
His work is characterized by a luminous Impressionist style, focusing on landscapes, traditional scenes, and bullfighting themes. He contributed illustrations to publications such as El Día Gráfico and La Noche, and was well-regarded both during his lifetime and posthumously. His paintings are held in major collections, including those of Banco Sabadell and the Carmen Thyssen Collection.
