DESCRIPTION
Mediterranean Village, Catalonia presents a serene view of a Catalan fishing enclave, with traditional red-roofed houses clustered around a small bay. Boats rest along the shoreline, and the scene exudes a luminous and tranquil atmosphere. Vilà Cañellas uses loose, textured brushstrokes in mauves, earthy tones, and blues, capturing the reflections on the water and the warmth of the architecture.
The composition, both balanced and direct, emphasizes the Mediterranean light and the harmony between the natural environment and human presence, echoing the Catalan Impressionist tradition.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
José María Vilà Cañellas was a Catalan painter born in Vic and trained at several art schools in Barcelona and Olot. From an early age, he stood out in competitions and exhibitions for his mastery of landscape, color, and atmosphere. His work is a lyrical testimony to Mediterranean life.

José María Vila Cañellas
Josep María Vilá Cañellas (Vic, Osona, 1914 - Barcelona, 2001).
Painter and draftsman. He was a disciple of Juan Colom, Ivo Pascual and Emilio Bosch Roger. It began to participate in collective ones in 1932, celebrating its first individuals in the room Barcino of Barcelona, and in the Gaspar (1941-1942).
Among his awards are Third Medal at the National Fine Arts of 1948, the Prize of the Contest "Landscape of Llavaneras" in 1950, Masriera Gold Medal in 1953, etc. Cultivate the landscape and the figure, within an impressionist concept.
One of his most recent exhibitions was held at the Lamvart gallery in Barcelona in 1996.
It is considered one of the most relevant exponents of Spanish Impressionism.
