Josep Roca Sastre (1928-1997) - Landscape - Oil on canvas

Josep Roca-Sastre i Muncunill (Tarrasa, 1928 - Barcelona, 1997) was a Spanish painter, son of the jurist Ramón María Roca Sastrey and grandson of the modernist architect, Lluís Muncunill. His career as a painter began in 1956 in Paris, where he spent two years on a scholarship from the French Institute and where he won First Prize in the Jeune Peinture contest. Later he continued with figurative works on urban and intimate themes, with a very personal style, which reflected an inner world marked by modernism and inspired by the passageways and corners of his own studio in Barcelona's Eixample.
He was a member of the Royal Catalan Academy of Fine Arts of San Jorge in Barcelona since 1980. He obtained the Sant Jordi Prize from the Barcelona Provincial Council (1966) and the medal of honor from the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris (1968). as well as the Quadern Award from the Sabadell Friends of Arts and Letters Foundation.
