About the Item
The work Santander (2015–2022) is a diptych in oil on panel that pays tribute to the coastal city through two columns of the Palacio de la Magdalena, the sole protagonists of the composition. Inspired by the blues and greens of Santander’s landscape, the artist applies them in glazes and superimposed layers, achieving great depth and richness of texture. Each panel presents a column in its own space, frontally illuminated by a magical light that contrasts with the shadowed background, creating a solemn and mysterious atmosphere. The long creative process reflects a meticulous attention to detail and a deep chromatic exploration. Signed and dated at the bottom, the work transcends mere architectural representation to become a personal tribute to the history, landscape, and timeless charm of Santander, offering the viewer a visual experience that photography cannot reproduce.
This work consists of two panels, each measuring 109 × 86 × 3 cm.
