After committing to writing and illustrating a full-length fantasy novel in his spare time, Judd began watercolor painting around 2014, studying with teachers such as Alvaro Castagnet, Joseph Zbukvic and Herman Pekel.
After finishing the book, All That Will Burn, in 2017, Judd's love for painting continues. He now spends his free time in his studio and plein air painting around Colorado, often with friend, fellow painter, and teacher, Dan Marshall.

Judd Mercer (b. 1982) is a contemporary landscape painter whose work captures the nuanced interplay of light and form in natural environments.
