About the Item
Julio Tejada was born in 1971 in the city of Moca in the Dominican Republic, where he received his first artistic education in the school of Fine Arts. From an early age, Julio Tejada showed interest in both: environmental and artistic studies. In the pursuit for both areas of knowledge, he received a double academic degree: one in art and another in zootechnics. At the present moment, Julio Tejada is working as a professor in the areas of drawing and painting as well as establishing himself on the international art arena. In his own words, the art of Julio Tejada "finds a source in his worry for the environment". In a search for the subject of his paintings, Julio relives his own childhood memories when he was walking, hiking, playing outside and swimming in the rivers. "I still remember them: the streams were crystal clear, paved with unsoiled stones, emerald water in transparent ponds, fishes of all colors, the smell of the forest after rain" His creation process consists of two main steps: first he travel to the rivers or mountains with the color pencils and objects such as paper boats and planes. After capturing an inspirational moment in the drawing sketches, he comes back to his studio and continues to build the composition on canvas.
