Born in 1929 in Homberg, Karl-Heinz Stienen began his increasingly successful painting activity in the 1950s under the guidance of Prof. Pozsony and training by Prof. Notze in old master painting style in open-air and studio work.
The old masters and especially the Klever School, here excellently B.C. Koekkoek, and the Lower Rhine landscape fascinated him. In the meantime, the representation of trees and landscapes has found a perfection that allows comparisons with the mentioned old master's works and has found wide recognition. The artist, known at home and abroad, has further developed his skills on study trips, especially in northern Italy and Spain, and has perfected the glaze technique, which is excellently in earth colours. His oil works convey peace and warmth and leave an unusual observational gift. Recognise empathy and sensitivity with unmistakeable peculiarity.
The elaborated and detailed works, whose light moods fascinate, can be found in well-known galleries and have, for example, led the art critic Dr. Ulrich Gehre to the following typical picture description:

Karl-Heinz Stienen has successfully oriented himself to the painting art of the old Dutch neighbours of his home and prefers in his subject the warm tones of the palette laving between brown, ochre and green grations. The design of the slightly cloudy sky above the lively Lower Rhine river region in delicate pastel tones impressively proves the artist's colour mastery. With this picture, which is a demanding art-ribs K.-H. Stienen Rhein-Nostalgie in a faithfully sympathetic way. It recalls the past, which in the hard rhythm of work of the industrial present already shows itself like a piece of history.
