This small oil painting depicts an atmospheric and intimate landscape where a sandy bluff meets a water source, potentially a river or an inlet from the ocean. The white sand in the foreground is defined with bold palette knife strokes. This textured area contrasts with the sky which is painted with soft blended brushstrokes. The trees and rocks located around the landscape provide an intermediary texture with visible but delicate brushstrokes. The overall color palette is warm and inviting.

Kathleen Murray (American, b. 1958) was born in Los Angeles, California. In the early 1970s, Murray spent three years in Europe studying art and languages at the American School in Switzerland (TASIS) and a year in Italy at St. Michael's School outside Florence. She resides in the Monterey Bay where she is well known for her deeply saturated and textured oil seascapes and landscapes of Carmel, Big Sur, and surrounding Coastal areas.
