Léon Germain Pelouse (1838–1891) was a French landscape painter associated with the Barbizon and L’École de Cernay traditions. Known for his luminous, detailed depictions of forests, rivers, and rural countryside, he became one of the notable landscape artists of the late 19th century.
Born: October 1, 1838, in Pierrelaye, France
Died: July 20, 1891, in Paris
Style: Realism/Naturalism, Landscape Painting
Movement: Associated with the Barbizon School; Founding figure of the Cernay-la-Ville artists' colony.
From 1865 onwards, he exhibited regularly at the Salon de Paris.
His works were appreciated by museums and collectors; today they hang in the Musée d’Orsay and various regional museums, among others.
