About the Item
A fine landscape painting of Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire by American artist Lilla Cabot Perry (1848-1933). Perry was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and went on to become a founder and first Secretary of the Guild of Boston Artists. She had the opportunity to live next door to Claude Monet in Giverny, France for ten years, who encouraged her impressionist style, which she brought back to Boston, lecturing on Monet and his impressionist style to the Boston Art Students Association. Perry was a key person in bringing French Impressionism to the United States. Oil on canvas, signed and dated 22 lower left, artist placard lower center, title inscribed on verso “Mt. Monadnock from Hancock, N.H., Late Afternoon, L C Perry, Oct 1922,” and housed in a molded giltwood frame. Dimensions: 20.5 in H x 26.13 in W, actual; 26.38 in H x 32.25 in W x 2 in D, framed.
