About the Item

The starting place for Golightly’s work is decades old found photos. The stillness of a photo belies an anticipation to know what happened before and what is to come next. These images are a literal look back but also force the viewers to evaluate the present and future. The act of transforming a photo into a painting with both traditional brush strokes, as well as allowing the paint to pool and move, serves to expose and transcend the nature of the materials. This process reflects her intention to modify and reduce the details of the image. Golightly is attempting to discover if the absence of detail allows for the images to resonate with more clarity and depth. Her work steps beyond the personal nature of the original photograph and connects to the viewer’s own experience. The specific details fall away and what remains is a space for the viewer to bring in their own memories. Golightly seeks to capture these attempts at freezing moments in time and the inherent flaws in doing so. Memory is in constant motion, changing, evolving or disappearing. While her work often contains a sense of stillness and quiet found in these photos, the paintings exist on the edge of that reality and the elusiveness and subjectivity of human memory. Exploring the intersection of the original photograph and the personal histories of the viewer, ultimately, these paintings speak to how unstable and easily altered both photographer and memory are - both of which we so heavily rely on and yet are never as concrete as they might seem.

Manitou Series Pink
By Liz Dexheimer
Located in Westport, CT
Liz Dexheimer’s abstract, colorful landscapes reveal her fascination with the illusory and transcendent qualities of light and atmosphere. Both serve as a source of inspiration for her work. She is interested in conveying a sense of place that goes beyond any particular location. In her recent paintings, she has been focusing also on the intangibility of the ethereal, the feeling of limitlessness and forever in the far view. She de-constructs found man-made imagery as a point of departure, re-interpreting it to suggest natural light, reflection, what lies beyond. She has always translated everything into a more reductive state, regardless of her source of inspiration, eliminating anecdotal markers, distilling information to try to get at the essence, the idea of it She is drawn to water imagery, the ambiguity of reflections and the multiple horizon lines they create, the contrast between flow and stasis. Dexheimer works with a limited palette , focusing on the sense of fullness, of atmospheric depth that emerges when a few colors interact and intermix. She has an extensive resume’. Dexheimer has shown in numerous galleries and museums. Her work is in many important collections including Essex House...

In The Pink Daybreak
By Kathleen Keifer
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kathleen Keifer's original artworks represent one of the most significant expressions of New California Realism. Keifer brings a fresh perspective to her colorful scenes of everyday life in the sun along the Pacific coastline (and beyond). Her detailed paintings show us the breathtaking California scenery with its recognizable elements in a new light and with a keen eye for clever composition and layered colors. Her modern landscapes and sublime seascapes capture an impressive visceral visual. This one-of-a-kind 30-inch high by 15-inch wide and 1.5-inch deep original artwork is a composition created with acrylic paint on canvas. It is stretched, wired, and ready to hang. The sides are painted as a continuation of the front and it does not require framing. It is signed by the artist on the front of the artwork. A certificate of authenticity issued by the gallery is included. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and global shipping also available. Kathleen Keifer is a California-based internationally collected artist. Her paintings invite the viewer to consider the complex relationship between time and timelessness. It is the sheer visual interaction between the elements, taken in their bare simplicity that interests her. Water, sky, and architecture change their appearance with the shifts in weather and light. Her broken brushstrokes depict light and color in luminous waves, dissolving form into a shimmering surface of vibrant light. For her, painting captures the very essence of time and its passage. While painting landscapes she became fascinated with isolating the objects in her paintings. She believes that actual sites and places have individual magic. The goal is to take objects from popular culture and paint them in a new context. She began to paint the silhouette of the Life Guard Tower more as a pop art symbol than a landscape element. With a high level of technical virtuosity, Keifer creates a new sense of reality with textures and colors that seem to add lighting effects and distinct shadows, confronting the viewer with new interpretations of familiar objects. Born and raised in Chicago, Kathleen Keifer is a second-generation artist. Her mother, also a fine artist, exposed Keifer to the world of art and supervised her training from a very early age. This legacy continues today as Keifer closely nurtures the development of the artistic leaning in each of her three daughters, inspiring a third generation of female artists. Her works are represented by Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles and have been exhibited and collected internationally, including Chicago, New York, and London.
