About the Item
American Impressionist landscape painter Lucy Hariot Booth was born in 1869 in Iowa and studied at the Art Students League in New York under Carroll Beckwith, Willard Metcalf, J. Alden Weir and John Henry Twachtman. Booth also painted at Weir Farm in Branchville with Albert Pinkham Ryder and Weir and in 1895, was part of a select group of artists invited to study under Theodore Robinson in Townshend, Vermont.
In the summer of 1895, Booth painted some of her finest landscapes, capturing the Vermont hills in vibrant blues, greens, tans and pinks with her characteristic angular compositions and broken dashes of color.

Charles Francis De Klyn was born in Westchester County, New York, in 1865. A landscape, marine, portrait and figure painter, De Klyn studied in New York and Paris from 1886 to 1891, then taught at the Cleveland Art Club and the Cleveland School of Art. In 1893, he was one of the founders of the Cleveland Brush and Palette Club, and he exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1894 and 1895.
