About the Item
Venice in vivid impressionist color and impasto textured paint, this mid-century oil painting is attributed to Luigi Pagan (1907-1980), born in Venice and known for his many paintings of his native city.
Pagan studied art in Turin and then returned to Venice, continuing work with the Fine Art Academy. He exhibited his work in galleries and sold internationally.
His paintings of sailing ships are often in bold color. Born in a fisher community he has commented on how he portrays that community as ‘bright and beautiful’.
This view is reflected in the jewel-like tones, the aqua seas and skies; and the red, orange and golden sails.
The painting is signed with his first name lower left, and is repeated on the lower center of the frame.
The painting is in a simple wooden frame, ready to be hung or re-imagined with a frame of your liking.
