About the Item
Good Weather is a unique painting by Japanese contemporary artist Lumi Mizutani. This painting is made with Japanese pigments, India ink and gold leaf on Japanese cardboard. Dimensions are 13.6 × 12.1 cm (5.35 × 4.76 inches). Dimensions of the framed artwork are 18,7 cm x 17,3 cm (7.36 × 6.81 inches).
The artwork is signed, sold framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The scene within the fan exudes serenity and abundance, centering on a majestic pine tree — a timeless symbol of longevity and good fortune — delicately rendered in ink and vibrant shades of green.
This work exemplifies Mizutani’s artistic approach, which honors the heritage of Japanese landscapes and traditions while venturing into new expressive territories. A painter and lithographer, Mizutani draws from both Chinese and Japanese artistic legacies, seamlessly blending the spontaneity of India ink with the patient precision of Japanese color pigments. The result reveals her signature duality — a dialogue between intricate figuration and the powerful, symbolic use of color and metallic materials.
Faithful to her artistic philosophy, Mizutani seeks to imprint a personal and contemporary vision that resonates emotionally with the viewer. As she explains, her goal is to “create a personal and contemporary footprint that challenges the viewer through the emotion it evokes.” By preserving ancestral techniques while embracing a bold modern sensibility, this piece beautifully captures the tranquil harmony of nature and the cultural depth of Japan.

Lumi Mizutani
Painter and lithographer, Lumi Mizutani draws her inspiration from traditional Chinese and Japanese painting techniques. Her ink drawings and her paintings extend this tradition, and, through constant experimentation, carry her towards new horizons. For a few years now Lumi Mizutani’s work has revolved around the duality between abstract and figurative, black and colour, the spontaneity of the gesture (the ink painting) and the patient composition work (the painting with pigment). Thanks to these antagonisms she finds the necessary and complementary resources to express herself. “I felt the desire to introduce colors, especially Japanese color pigments, familiar to my childhood. Japanese painting thus entered my artistic expression and my life. While respecting the ancestral techniques and codes, I strive to create a personal and contemporary footprint that challenges the viewer by the emotion it arouses.“
