Substantial period Berkeley School abstract expressionist landscape titled "Treescape" by listed Berkeley artist Marjorie Cathcart (American, 1913-2003). Signed left edge; signed and titled on verso. Exhibition write-up included. Presented in rustic wood shadowbox-style frame with gold finish edge. Image, 32"H x 30"W.
Marjorie Cathcart earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of California, Berkeley in 1943. She studied with Lundy Seigrist, Catherine Hagen, Tom Holland, Anne O’Hanlon and influenced by Wayne Theibaud. She was a member of Marin Society of Artists, San Francisco Women Artists and President of Oakland Art Association. Exhibitions included: Annual International Art Festival, San Francisco; California State Art Exposition; Jack London Fair; and 1st place at California State Fair in 1967. Marjorie Cathcart is listed in: Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940"; "Women Artists of the American West"; "Yesterday's Artists of the Monterey Peninsula"; Monterey: The Artist's View, 1925-1945"; and "Artists of the American West." She taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts.

Marjorie Cathcart
Marjorie Cathcart held a bachelor of fine arts degree at the University of California, Berkeley, 1943. She studied with Lundy Siegriest, Catherine Hagen, Tom Holland and Anne O’Hanlon and was influenced by Wayne Thiebaud. Cathcart taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts. She exhibited at the California State Art Exposition; the Jack London Fair; 1st place at California State Fair 1967; and Annual International Art Festival, San Francisco.
