About the Item
French watercolour on paper view of a manor house or bastide in a rural landscape. The painting is signed bottom right and presented in a fine gilded wood frame with a hessian cloth insert under glass. There is a label to the back of the frame from a gallery in Nantes, France.
A charming rendition of a French manor house its doors opening out on to flowerbeds and a lawn. Set in to the roof are the characteristic œil-de-bœuf elliptical windows. The house is set in a wooded park with tall majestic trees surrounding it. Dropsy has used a loose fluid style for the foliage and sky contrasting against the more precise handling of the architectural details of the buildings.
Dropsy is from a long line of accomplished artists and sculptors including Jean Baptiste Émile Dropsy and Jean Baptise Dropsy.
