A contemporary Impressionist pastel on paper by British artist Miranda McCarthy. Signed to the bottom right and presented in a black case frame.
The softness of pastel as a medium for this lazy day in an olive grove surrounded by poppies in the south of France is the perfect choice to create a magical impressionistic effect to this wild and yet gorgeous landscape.
A beautiful balance of colour and perspective make this a picture to lose yourself in over and over again.
Miranda, having lived many years in Provence has a great understanding of the local nature and this shows in her delicate attention to detail in this work. The bright Provençal spring light is particularly well understood as here and there it captures the silver backs of the olive leaves and the the heads of yellow spring flowers intermingled with blood red poppies.
