BIOGRAFÍA DE MODEST URGELL INGLADA (Barcelona, 1839 - 1919)
Pintor, paisajista y escritor español. Fue profesor de perspectiva y paisaje de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Barcelona y fundador de la Sociedad Artística y Literaria de Barcelona. Comenzó su formación en la Escuela de La Lonja de la Ciudad Condal, por entonces dirigida por Ramón Martí Alsina, donde trabó amistad con Joaquín y Mariano Vayreda, José y Francisco Masriera, Simón Gómez, José Luis Pellicer y Ramón Padró, entre otros. Viajó a París para ampliar sus estudios, y allí conoció la obra de Gustave Courbet. Se especializó en la representación de cementerios, ermitas desoladas y paisajes crepusculares. Como escritor destacan sus obras tituladas Cataluña y El murciélago. Remitió sus pinturas a numerosas exposiciones y certámenes, a las de Barcelona y a las Nacionales de Bellas Artes de Madrid, la Universal de París e Internacionales de Múnich, Bruselas, Berlín, Filadelfia y Chicago.
